DAY 4     SYDNEY CITY SIGHTS - OPERA HOUSE - LUNCHEON HARBOUR CRUISE


 





(B, L)           This morning enjoy a city sights tour visiting the historical Rocks area, where the First Fleet landed in 1788 to establish Australia's first European settlement. Observe examples of early architecture and the beautiful sandstone buildings, made out of the same rocks, which gave this area its name. Visit the Sydney Opera House, described as the Eighth Wonder of the World for a guided tour. See St Mary's Cathedral, Parliament House, Darling Harbour, Chinatown and Mrs Macquarie's Chair.  Continue on through cosmopolitan Kings Cross, Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay and Watson’s Bay before stopping at the world famous Bondi Beach. Return to Circular Quay for your luncheon cruise on magnificent Sydney Harbour.  See spectacular views of the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Fort Denison, million dollar mansions and the bays and inlets that dot the harbour.  Own arrangements to your hotel at the conclusion of your cruise.

DAY 5     FULL DAY WILDLIFE PARK AND BLUE MOUNTAINS TOUR

(B, L)           This morning board your coach to travel west of Sydney to follow the trail of Australia's early explorers as we climb the Blue Mountains.  Visit Sydney’s leading Koala Wildlife Sanctuary where you will have the opportunity to see our famous Koala and many other unique Australian animals.  After an early lunch continue on to the Blue Mountains which are aptly named by the distinctive blue haze, caused by light striking droplets of eucalyptus oil evaporating from the gum trees.  The Blue Mountains National Park covers an area of 247,021 hectares, abundant in rare wildlife, flora and fauna. Discover the "Grand Canyon" of giant rock formations, geological history, deep tree studded valleys and cascading waterfalls.  View the world famous rock formation "The Three Sisters" and panoramic views of the Jamieson Valley, Mount Solitary and the Ruined Castle..

DAY 6     SYDNEY TO AYERS ROCK (air) - OLGAS AND AYERS ROCK SUNSET TOUR

(B)        This morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Ayers Rock.   Upon arrival in Ayers Rock transfer to your hotel.

This afternoon visit Mt Olga to view the spectacular rock formations and be dwarfed by these 36 huge, mysterious domes.  This is part of the Uluru National Park, a region now given back to the Aboriginal people and leased back to the nation.  Return to Ayers Rock to view the sunset over this incredible land mark.

DAY 7     AYERS ROCK SUNRISE TOUR - AYERS ROCK TO ALICE SPRINGS (coach)

(B)          Rise early this morning to watch the beautiful desert sunrise over Ayers Rock.   You will then have the opportunity to see some of the many Aboriginal sacred caves, which hold a special significance for the local Aboriginal people.  Re-board your coach for your journey through this unique central Australian countryside to Alice Springs (approx 5 hours).

DAY 8     ABORIGINAL DREAMTIME AND BUSHTUCKER TOUR - ALICE SPRINGS TO CAIRNS (air)

(B)     Today join your specialist guide and Aboriginal people of the Walpiti tribe who will take you on a journey into the lifestyle and beliefs of traditional Aboriginal people as they have lived for thousands of years.  Learn how to throw a boomerang and spear, and of their traditional hunting techniques and bush survival skills.  Try some bush food including the infamous Witchetty Grub.  Your tour will conclude at the airport in time for your flight to Cairns.

DAY 9 FULL DAY OUTER BARRIER REEF


 (B, L)     This morning board, a high-speed catamaran.  Your destination is the unique wilderness of the Outer Great Barrier Reef.  This is your opportunity to explore the magic of the reef.  A Marine Biologist will conduct informative lectures on marine life during the day.  It is an area of extraordinary beauty, an amazing underwater world filled with colour and variety.  View the exotic reef, abounding with myriads of tropical fish for you to discover, and be amazed by the magnificent coral formations.  After lunch you may swim, snorkel, or ride in a submersible coral viewer.

DAY 10     KURANDA SCENIC RAIL -  SKYRAIL - TJAPUKAI ABORIGINAL CULTURAL PARK

(B)          This morning transfer to Freshwater Station, to board the scenic Kuranda Rail and journey through breathtaking scenery before arriving at picturesque Kuranda Station.  Free time to enjoy this unique mountain village, which is populated by alternative lifestylers.  (Market days are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday).  This afternoon board Skyrail, an enclosed cable car which takes you skimming across the rainforest canopy taking in breathtaking views of the Coral Sea and Green Island, to Caravonica Lakes at the base of the range.  Visit the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park and enter a magical, mystical world.  For the first time an entire park has been dedicated to preserving and presenting authentic Aboriginal Culture with the aid of modern technology.  Enjoy 3 theatres, a museum, an art gallery and a traditional Aboriginal camp which is combined to give you a complete and meaningful glimpse of the Tjapukai Aboriginal people's rich and ancient culture.  Return to your hotel late afternoon.

DAY 11  FULL DAY DAINTREE RAINFOREST TOUR

(B, PL)     Your day begins driving alongside the Marlin Coast's idyllic deserted beaches, imposing coastal ranges and lush fields of sugarcane to the infamous Daintree River.  Cross the river by cable ferry and travel on into the primeval jungle of the Daintree rainforest to Cape Tribulation.  Take a walk beside a jungle creek and marvel at nature’s adaptability as the vegetation changes from freshwater rainforest to saltwater mangroves. Observe the intriguing plants and animals of these two special and complex ecosystems.  Feel the magic of the oldest rainforest on planet earth.  After lunch board a river boat to cruise on mangrove lined jungle creeks.  An excellent chance to see and photograph crocodiles in the wild.  Later this afternoon visit Mossman Gorge where you will have the opportunity for a refreshing swim (weather permitting) before returning to Cairns.

DAY 12  CAIRNS TO CHRISTCHURCH NEW ZEALAND (air)

(B)     This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to New Zealand.  Upon arrival in Christchurch you will be met and assisted with transfer to your hotel.  Sightseeing tour of the “Garden City” of Christchurch includes the CBD, the Gothic style Cathedral, the Canterbury Arts Centre, the Museum, Botanic Gardens and the lovely gardens at Mona Vale estate where there is also the opportunity to go punting on the River Avon.

DAY 13  CHRISTCHURCH TO QUEENSTOWN

(B)       Full day tour by coach (487 kms) travelling across the Canterbury Plains which are a major sheep and crop farming area to Fairlie.  Travel through Burkes Pass to Lake Tekapo.  See the quaint Church of the Good Shepherd alongside Lake Tekapo.  Drive around glacially formed Lakes Pukaki and Tekapo.  On a day Mt. Cook (12,349ft), New Zealand’s highest mountain can be seen at the head of Lake Pukaki.  The scenery is magnificent.  Opportunities for scenic flights over the Alps from Tekapo (own cost).  Cross the MacKenzie Basin and continue on through Lindis Pass and Central Otago to Queenstown.

DAY 14   QUEENSTOWN

(B)     Breakfast at the hotel. Morning sightseeing includes the Skyline Gondola to Bob’s Peak from where there are panoramic views over Lake Wakatipu and surrounding mountains, the Shotover River where there is the opportunity for jetboating (own cost), historic Arrowtown, lovely Lake Hayes, and the Gibbston Valley Winery to sample some of the excellent local wines. Afternoon free for your own choice of activities.  Suggest a lake cruise on the vintage lake steamer TSS Earnslaw with Walter Peak Farm Show (not included).

DAY 15    MILFORD SOUND DAY TOUR

(B, L)     Breakfast at the hotel. Full day tour by coach travelling around Lake Wakatipu and through Te Anau and Fiordland National Park.  The scenery is stunning with high mountains and deep valleys carved out by ice age glaciers.  There are clear rushing streams and leaping waterfalls set amid magnificent rainforest. At Milford cruise down the fiord past Mitre Peak to the open sea.  Seals and dolphins are often seen.  Buffet lunch served aboard. Afterwards return to Queenstown travelling via the Cleddeau Gorge, Homer  Tunnel and the lovely Eglinton Valley.

DAY 17    ROTORUA

(B)     Breakfast at the hotel. Morning sightseeing includes a guided tour of Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve and the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute where young Maori are being taught traditional carving and weaving skills, Rainbow Springs to see the trout and rare kiwi birds, the Government Gardens and the popular Agrodome sheep show. The afternoon is free for your own activities such as bathing in the thermal pools, golfing, trout fishing, more sightseeing or shopping.

DAY 18    ROTORUA TO WAITOMO TO AUCKLAND

(B, L)     Full day tour by coach travelling across picturesque farming country and over the bush clad Mamaku Ranges to Waitomo.  At Waitomo enjoy a guided tour of the famous limestone caves including the Glowworm Cave.  Farm lunch at Waitomo and in the afternoon drive on to Auckland travelling through the rose town of Te Awamutu and Hamilton City.  Cross the Bombay Hills into Auckland.
